TalkSPORT pundit and Steve Bruce fan Gabby Agbonlahor has explained why he ‘can’t have’ former Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard moved to Everton this summer, which was a controversial move due to his history with Liverpool.

And Agbonlahor, who is an avid defender of the current Toon boss, has taken issue with this.

“I can’t have Benitez,” he told TalkSPORT.

“I was based on loyalty with Aston Villa. You look at Benitez – his family, he lives in the area – he’s just chosen to go to Everton because it’s local.

“That’s like me finishing my career and saying ‘Birmingham City, can you give me like five, 10 thousand pounds a week and I’ll sign for you because it’s an extra pay day and it’s local’.”

Hypocrisy is rife for TalkSPORT ‘pundit’ Gabby Agbonlahor

TalkSPORT is a strange place, where logic and common sense often goes to die.

One person can be hailed for doing one thing, while another can be hammered to the hills and back for doing exactly the same.

So Agbonlahor has an issue with Benitez managing Liverpool and Everton?

Strangely, that argument fails to crop up when he defends his former manager Bruce.

For context, Bruce has been in charge of Newcastle and Sunderland, Birmingham and Aston Villa, and both Sheffield sides. If he was good enough he’d probably forget his Manchester United past and take the City job…

It reeks of favouritism by Agbonlahor, who claimed last season that Newcastle supporters owe Bruce an apology. This came months after he called Toon fans ‘deluded’.

The former Villa striker defends the 60-year-old at any opportunity, banging the tired old rhetoric about Newcastle fans.

And to think, he gets paid to say these things…
