PIF continue to work tirelessly at Newcastle United as they bring up their fourth anniversary at St James’ Park.
7 October 2021 was a memorable day for Newcastle United fans as PIF completed their long-awaited takeover.
PSR may have somewhat held PIF back from their grand plans at Newcastle, but the last few years have brought success.
Newcastle are in the Champions League for the second time in three seasons and won the Carabao Cup last season to end a lengthy trophy drought.

PIF striving for Newcastle United improvement
Newcastle’s chief commercial officer, Peter Silverstone, has now commented on PIF’s plans for the club moving forward.
Speaking to Brand Finance, Silverstone claimed that the ambition and drive inside Newcastle is ‘relentless’ due to the impact of PIF.
Silverstone claims that Newcastle’s ultimate aim is to become a ‘top leading European club’, and there are already positive results in terms of the rise of the club as a brand.
Silverstone highlighted one thing that PIF are ‘always analysing’ – the gap between where Newcastle are now and where the club wants to get to in the coming years.
PIF want to be a leading force in the Premier League and across Europe, so there is still plenty of work to be done.
Silverstone is happy with the progress, though, and believes that the investment into people, structure and processes will help Newcastle become a real power.
“PIF’s ownership and RBS Sports media ownership has catapulted the club, and primarily, our ambition, the ambition of our ownership and everyone within the club, is relentless,” said Silverstone.
“It’s to be the best we can be. It’s to be a top, leading European club. We’re already, as the brand finance report states, we’re the third fastest growing brand within the top 50, which is fantastic. That growth needs to continue to achieve both the ambition of our fan base and of our ownership group.
“Since PIF came on board, they’ve invested heavily in people, structure, processes, always analysing what’s the gap between where we are and where we want to get to, and then providing both the financial and strategic support to fuel that growth, and that will achieve both our ambition and ownership’s ambition, which, as I say, is to be a leading Premier League and European football club challenging for all major honours across the globe,” he added.
Mehrdad Ghodoussi sends message to Newcastle United fans
PIF may have had bigger plans in mind, but the four-year anniversary comes up with Newcastle in a strong position.
PSR has been a problem, but Newcastle are still a perennial challenger for Champions League action – and that quest has been a successful one in two of the last three seasons.
Newcastle fans will still hope for more in the future, and it’s clear that PIF feel the same despite their various other investments.
As fans celebrate four years since the PIF takeover, Mehrdad Ghodoussi has sent a brief message to fans.
‘Remember it like it was yesterday,’ said Ghodoussi, who still holds Newcastle close to his heart despite leaving the club alongside Amanda Staveley in 2024.
Ghodoussi will cheer Newcastle on from afar, and he will certainly hope that the Carabao Cup success earlier this year is not the end of the silverware under PIF.
