Newcastle trio recreate iconic Shola Ameobi photo during pre-season trip

Miguel Almiron, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have recreated an iconic Newcastle United photo.

The trio are with the rest of the squad in Austria, as Eddie Howe prepares his players for the upcoming Premier League season.

It’s set to be a really exciting campaign for the Magpies, who have five friendlies to go before their first game against Nottingham Forest.

They have two games in Austria, starting tomorrow afternoon against 1860 Munich. The three players mentioned above will hope to be involved, and have been eating healthily in preparation for the game.

Newcastle trio enjoy a snack whilst on their bikes

It looks like the Toon players have been having great fun in Austria. They went go-karting, which was won by Ryan Fraser. He stood on top of the podium, which failed to give him much of a height advantage over runners up Jamal Lewis and Chris Wood.

The squad have also been out on the bikes, and it looks like multiple players have been using two wheels to travel from the hotel to the training area.

That’s what Almiron, Bruno and Joelinton have been pictured doing. And to make it even better, they have all eaten an apple at the same time.

For some, this will be meaningless. But a lot of Toon fans will love the reference to an iconic photo of a Newcastle cult hero.

The original Shola Ameobi photo

Fans of a certain vintage will know this is a recreation of a famous Shola Ameobi snap.

The former Newcastle striker was once pictured cycling in his Toon training gear eating an apple. For no reason whatsoever, it’s really funny. You often see it doing the rounds on social media.

There’s nothing special about it. It’s just a man riding a bike whilst eating an apple. But for some reason it is adored by Newcastle fans. Maybe it’s the fact he looks so nonchalant.

It’s been photoshopped to look like he’s racing against other cyclists, while prints of the image are available to buy on Etsy. Simply put, it’s an iconic image for the Toon Army.

And supporters will love seeing current Magpies taking a leaf out of Shola’s book.
