Newcastle United transfer target Bruno Guimaraes showed the all-action midfield qualities he possesses in a dominant performance against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Evening Standard claim that the Magpies have watched the Lyon midfielder, who helped Brazil win Olympic gold in the summer.

The report adds that Arsenal and Everton are also interested in the 24-year-old, who is valued at £40million.

The Brazilian international’s burgeoning stock would have no doubt risen further following a man of the match performance against the runaway Ligue 1 leaders last night.

With Eddie Howe needing an injection of quality throughout his team, Guimaraes’ performance against Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed that he is the complete midfielder who could improve Newcastle both in a defensive and attacking aspect.

Against the French giants, Lyon’s number 39 ranked first among the players on the pitch for duels won (12), fouls drawn (6), tackles won (4) and chances created (3), according to football analyst Statman Dave.

He showed the incredible vision he has in his arsenal by picking out his compatriot Lucas Paqueta with an inch-perfect pass which helped give his side the lead.

PSG may have grabbed a late equaliser, but it was an eye-catching performance from Guimaraes which may have caught the attention of several big clubs.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has claimed agreeing a deal for Guimaraes in the January transfer window is ‘too complicated’.

Nevertheless, Newcastle’s immediate focus has to be on survival, but players in the ilk of Bruno Guimaraes who could be the club’s Rolls-Royce midfielder are the type of signings PIF could be looking to attract in the summer.

But that will only be possible if we manage to beat the drop which means the next three weeks in the winter window are crucial.

If we get our signings right in the coming days and weeks, which leads to us securing our top-flight status, then attracting players like Guimaraes to St James’ Park could become a real possibility.
