Newcastle United have been linked with Christian Eriksen for the second time in 2022.

According to 90min, the Magpies are one of multiple Premier League clubs who could offer the Brentford midfielder a contract at the end of the season.

His current deal at the Brentford Community Stadium comes to an end soon following his emotional return to football.

It’s been fantastic to see him playing once again. Not only that, but he’s playing brilliantly. He’s flying for Brentford, whilst he also scored twice for Denmark in the most recent international break.

His form has caught the attention of multiple clubs, who are smelling a potential bargain transfer.

It would be the second free transfer of the year for Eriksen, who joined Brentford for nothing in January. The Bees took a gamble, and it has paid off.

Newcastle missed one opportunity to land Eriksen

When news broke that Eriksen was heading back to the Premier League, multiple clubs were linked. According to the Times, Newcastle were interested, alongside Leicester City.

However, he would instead join Brentford. This came as a shock given their stature, but their bid was strengthened by their location. Eriksen was keen to live in London again, having previously played for Spurs.

That is perhaps what cost Newcastle in January – if their interest in the 30-year-old was genuine.

It was a missed opportunity, but that opportunity could come around again. Newcastle need to make sure they don’t miss for a second time.

Eriksen would be a wonderful addition for the Magpies. He’s a marquee name, and he wouldn’t eat much into our budget. That would allow Eddie Howe to invest more money elsewhere.

With his incredible passing ability and vision, Eriksen could get more out of the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Chris Wood, while he’s also a goal threat himself.

The Magpies are slightly light in attack, and Eriksen would bring real quality in tight games.

If Newcastle are in the race to sign Eriksen on a free, they must do their best to land the player they couldn’t in January.
