Newcastle United face Brentford this weekend, with an interesting subplot surrounding Christian Eriksen.
Both clubs have fears of relegation, with Brentford’s early form cooling and leading them into danger. As for Newcastle, they started horribly but have finally began to improve.
A win for the Magpies against the Bees would see Newcastle go above them in the table for the first time this season.
This could be another pivotal weekend in the fight for Premier League survival, but it could also be a crucial weekend for Brentford’s January recruit Christian Eriksen.

Christian Eriksen debut could be on the cards
It was incredibly exciting to see Eriksen join Brentford last month.
After what happened to him playing for Denmark at Euro 2020, it’s fantastic to see him back and ready to play football again.

Eriksen is back in the Premier League, and perhaps could’ve been making his Toon debut this weekend rather than his Brentford bow.
The Times reported last month that St James’ Park was a possible destination for Eriksen as he closed in on a Premier League return.
But he signed for Brentford, keen to return to London and work with Thomas Frank again. Disappointing for Newcastle, but a move to Brentford absolutely made more sense.

Now the two sides meet on Saturday, and Eriksen will be hoping to make his competitive return to action. He’s played in two friendlies for Brentford lately, laying on three assists. That sounds ominous for Newcastle.
If he does feature on Saturday, it will likely be off the bench. That should inspire Eddie Howe to get the job done early, ensuring Eriksen doesn’t get the chance to make it a perfect return to football.
Seeing Eriksen back on a football pitch will be a beautiful sight, but hopefully that’s as good as it gets on Saturday.
