The new Newcastle United owners believe they might have a problem in January according to reports.

The Saudi-backed consortium have plenty of cash to spend, and it is desperately needed given the Magpies’ position in the Premier League table.

Newcastle are still bottom, but got another point on the board on Tuesday night against Norwich.

Eddie Howe needs reinforcements, but will he be able to get them? The Newcastle hierarchy reportedly have a concern, but are unmoved by other reports.

Will players want to come to Newcastle in January?

According to the Daily Mail, the owners are worried that players may be unwilling to move to St James’ Park given the club’s precarious position in the table.

While PIF and co have lofty ambitions, the immediate goal is staying in the Premier League. And that could prove to be a monumental task.

The report adds that the owners are not concerned by claims that some clubs will refuse to do business with them. The Daily Mail state that a source has told them ‘if they’re [other PL clubs] getting value, they will transact’.

That is no surprise. We said ourselves last month that teams may have no choice but to deal with Newcastle if they want to move certain players on.

Newcastle need to act quickly in January, and the report states that deals are already being lined up. The sooner players arrive, the better.

But it all may depend on what Eddie Howe and the current players can do between now and the end of 2021. They need to get points on the board and prove that this club still has some life in it this season.

If not, players aren’t going to move to Newcastle. They aren’t going to sign a lengthy contract with a club that is already destined for the Championship.
