Carney Chukwuemeka could leave Aston Villa this summer, but ideally not to Newcastle. That’s the view of Steven Gerrard’s side according to the Telegraph.
The teenage midfielder is being linked with a move away from Villa Park, amid a contract dispute with the club.
His current deal expires next summer, meaning Villa want to give him an extension now before they risk losing him for nothing.
However, the 18-year-old has so far been unable to reach an agreement. He’s since been left out of Villa’s pre-season tour of Australia, and could reportedly be sold.
Plenty of clubs are interested in Chukwuemeka, including Newcastle. However, Eddie Howe’s side might struggle to sign the England Under-19 international, who is valued at £20million.
Villa would rather Chukwuemeka went abroad
According to the Telegraph, Villa do not want to sell Chukwuemeka to Newcastle United. Instead, they would rather he joined a foreign club.
That speaks volumes about how highly rated he is. They know that if he were to join a Premier League rival he would likely thrive there.
Chukwuemeka is a sensational talent, and the latest to come through the Villa academy. We’ve seen Jack Grealish go on to become the most expensive English player ever, while Jacob Ramsey is now thriving in the West Midlands.
Chukwuemeka is the latest prodigy off the conveyor belt, but his future might not be at Villa Park. However, it might not be at St James’ Park either.
He would be a wonderful signing by Dan Ashworth, who is already making a big effort to enhance our youth ranks. Chukwuemeka would probably be seen as a level above, given the fact he already has 13 Premier League appearances to his name.
He’s the kind of long-term player who Howe could eventually build his team around, and it’s exciting to see us in the mix for his signature.
However, it might be difficult to sign him this summer. Perhaps our only hope is that he becomes a free agent next year when Villa can’t stop us landing their brightest prospect.
