Newcastle United transfer target Victor Osimhen has responded to reports that he could be set to leave Napoli this summer.

The Express report that the Magpies have joined Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the race to sign the Nigerian superstar, who is valued at more than £100million.

The 23-year-old has scored 15 goals this season but he would have likely scored a lot more if he hadn’t have missed 11 games due to a cheekbone fracture.

With a lot of the attention focusing on where the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe will be moving this summer, Osimhen is another player who could be the subject of heavy interest.

With eight Serie A games remaining, Luciano Spalletti’s side sit second in the table, three points behind the leaders AC Milan, in what promises to be a pulsating title race with reigning champions Inter making it a three-horse battle.

Barring a dramatic collapse it looks like Napoli are guaranteed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Osimhen has only played five games in the Champions League which came in his solitary campaign with Lille. The Nigerian international scored twice from five games during that campaign.

Napoli’s number nine will relish playing in Europe’s top club competition once again next season and participation in the Champions League could prove enough for Osimhen to remain at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

However, Osimhen’s immediate focus will be on helping the Super Eagles qualify for this winter’s World Cup.

Nigeria face Ghana in a two-legged World Cup play-off with the first leg taking place on Friday.

But the man who has 10 goals to his name from 18 international caps has took time out to respond to the noise surrounding his future with a post on Instagram.

Newcastle United’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson was aware four years ago of the talent Osimhen possesses.

But after it was revealed yesterday that Newcastle will reportedly not be spending massive amounts in their first summer window since the takeover, it looks like any move for Victor Osimhen is going to have to wait.
