Newcastle transfer news: Toon want loan deal for Armando Broja

Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Armando Broja this summer, but it might just be on loan.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who state that the Magpies have discussed completing a loan deal for the Chelsea striker.

Broja spent last season on loan at Southampton, scoring nine goals in all competitions. It was his first season in the Premier League, and the 20-year-old more than held his own.

He faded towards the end of the campaign, but managed to prove that he has the potential to be a consistent goalscorer in the Premier League.

His form at Southampton has led to talk of a fresh move away from Stamford Bridge, with Newcastle eyeing a deal.

Broja on loan would be a good alternative to Hugo Ekitike

The Magpies have been trying to land a forward all summer, with Hugo Ekitike the club’s main target.

However, a bid to sign the Frenchman has now collapsed, despite a £26million fee being agreed. Newcastle are now looking elsewhere, with Broja seen as a good alternative.

The Northern Echo have reported that Newcastle are confident they can get Broja – if Chelsea decide he can leave.

He fits the profile of what we want. He’s a young player who can develop, but already has the ability to be an adequate deputy to Callum Wilson. As the Albanian assistant boss Sergio Porrini says, he is a ‘devastating‘ forward with room to improve.

The Albania international would probably be a more sensible signing for Eddie Howe than Ekitike. We’ve seen what he can do in the Premier League already, while Ekitike is completely unproven in England.

Getting Broja on loan could be much more viable, and it may appeal to all parties.

Loan interest could boost Newcastle’s chances

It is yet to be confirmed whether or not Chelsea want to let Broja leave this summer. Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants to assess him during pre-season, but it’s surely unlikely he’ll get the minutes he needs at Stamford Bridge.

Another move away for Broja feels unlikely. Whether it’s on loan or permanent remains to be seen.

West Ham were recently linked with a £30million move for the youngster. That seemed like bad news for Newcastle, who are never going to pay that kind of money for him.

But Chelsea might not want to sell him. Another loan away might suit them better, and it will certainly suit the Magpies too.

That means we can spend more money elsewhere, and reassess Broja’s suitability next summer depending on how be does in a black and white shirt. That could suit Chelsea too, who might still be undecided on whether or not to keep him.

Broja on loan would be a good addition for Newcastle, but don’t expect this transfer to happen in the immediate future. Chelsea will assess him first, then make a decision.

Until then, we wait.
