It’s felt like Aaron Ramsey has been on a collision course with Newcastle United for a while now.
The midfielder was first linked with the Magpies over the summer, back when we were searching down the back of Mike Ashley’s sofa for pennies to add to the transfer kitty. Talk of signing the former Arsenal man seemed farfetched.
But things have changed since the takeover. Newcastle now have ambitious owners with deep pockets.
And with Ramsey struggling at Juventus, a lot of pundits tipped him to return to the Premier League with Newcastle.
Then there was talk in the Italian media – which can sometimes be unreliable. But following Max Allegri’s comments that Ramsey will leave the Turin giants, it has now been reported that Newcastle are going to make a move.
Aaron Ramsey on loan would be another dream Newcastle signing
According to the Times, the Magpies are ‘hopeful’ of landing the 31-year-old on loan. Eddie Howe wants to add Premier League experience, which Ramsey has stacks of after his 11 years at Arsenal.
The report adds that Newcastle are ready to make a loan offer with an option to buy the Welshman in the summer, with Juve confident that the Magpies will cover at least half of his £250,000-a-week wages.
This would be another statement signing by Newcastle if we can pull it off. Kieran Trippier is a wonderful piece of business – a smart but big time signing. Ramsey would be of similar mould.
Of course, there are concerns over his fitness. But if he can steer clear of injury bother then Ramsey would be a gamechanger in midfield for Newcastle, and another example of our newfound pulling power.
