Newcastle transfer news: Toon consider bidding for Anthony Gordon again

Newcastle United tried to sign Anthony Gordon earlier in the summer, and it is now reported that the Magpies might bid for him again.

That’s according to the Chronicle, who state that Eddie Howe’s side are considering a fresh move for the Everton youngster.

We were linked with Gordon early last month, but it was reported that Frank Lampard had no intentions of letting him leave Goodison Park. It was also suggested that he could sign a new contract with the Toffees.

However, Newcastle are yet to fully give up on signing the talented Scouser.

Newcastle might be bidding for Gordon again

The Chronicle state that the Magpies are considering making a second offer for Gordon, after the first was rejected. They add that Newcastle offered as much as £35million for the 21-year-old.

That is a lot of money, and Newcastle will have to offer even more the second time around.

However, the Chronicle have suggested that Howe might be in a stronger position to sign Gordon given Everton’s injury woes. Lampard lost Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina on Saturday, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also out injured.

The Godfrey injury is definitely long term, meaning Everton need to get busy in the transfer window. However, they might need to sell to buy which could give us a chance with Gordon.

While the winger isn’t massively popular on Tyneside, he could prove to be a good signing. He has stacks of potential, and is the kind of player who wears his heart on his sleeve.

Gordon is full of energy, showcased by his brilliant pressing as Everton’s lone striker against Chelsea.

Rafa Benitez was certainly a fan, calling Gordon ‘very explosive‘ last year after giving the youngster a prominent role in his team.

With a bit of coaching to add more goals and assists, Gordon could become a special talent. That’s why Newcastle are interested in him, and still looking to sign him despite initially being told no.

We have already seen an offer of £35million turned down, so a second offer will be even higher. That’s where some doubts might begin to creep in for Toon fans, because is he really worth more than £40million?

In a summer where we are trying to be careful with what we spend, that would be a strange offer.
