A number of Championship clubs are interested in Newcastle United’s Elliot Anderson on loan for next season. That’s according to TEAMtalk, who list Middlesbrough, Reading, Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion as the sides looking to bring him in.
West Brom’s alleged interest is the most interesting, given the fact they’re managed by former Toon boss Steve Bruce.
A move to the Baggies would make a lot of sense. Bruce managed Newcastle just as Anderson was breaking through. Interestingly, it was Bruce who gave Anderson his only two first-team appearances against Arsenal in the FA Cup and Premier League.
Bruce clearly saw something in him, and the youngster is currently on fire for League Two side Bristol Rovers. But he’ll be playing higher up the Football League next season.

The same report states that Newcastle are looking to loan the 19-year-old to a Championship club.
Bruce has previously spoken highly of how ‘effortless’ Anderson can be as a player
Bruce has previously commented on Anderson’s ability. He caught his eye when he was manager and was a top player for the Newcastle Under-23s. A lot of fans wanted to see more of the attacking midfielder.
Bruce told to The Chronicle: “He never looks rushed. Everything is effortless to him and easy. We hope he’s got a big future.”
A season of Championship football would be the next logical step for Anderson. He’s done very well within Bristol Rovers in League Two. In fact, he nearly joined Luton Town in January (The Athletic) but a deal was never reached.

As for West Brom, they’ve had a miserable time in 2022. They’ve slipped down the table, going from being in the play-off positions to 12th place. So perhaps they could do with a player like Anderson who has the potential to be a real talent.
But from the looks of things, it’ll be a real battle for a number of Championship clubs to land his signature. Another report from The Mirror (Sunday Mirror, 03/04, p70) earlier this month claims Nottingham Forest, QPR and Preston are after him too.
Anderson is a man in demand. But can we trust Brucey with our academy’s finest talent? Some will have their doubts.
