A familiar face scored a magnificent goal for Nottingham Forest yesterday. Former Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback scored a superb third for Forest against former Magpies boss Steve Bruce and his West Brom side.
They’d go on to win the game 4-0 as the former European Cup winners look to win promotion to the Premier League. Forest are currently fifth with five games to go.
Colback caught the ball beautifully first-time on the left-hand side which caught Baggies keeper David Button off guard.
Some Nottingham Forest fans were totally shocked that not only had he gone for goal, but scored from that angle. Colback himself was stunned to have found the net in such an impressive way. It’s got to be the best goal he’s ever scored.
How has Colback fared since leaving Newcastle for Notts Forest?
Colback has been part of the Notts Forest side since 2017 when he joined on loan. In 2020 he left Newcastle to join them permanently after a couple of years on loan. He left Tyneside for Nottingham on a free transfer (BBC Sport).
He started off well at Newcastle (his boyhood club) and developed the nickname of ‘the ginger Pirlo’. In the summer of 2014, he was handed an England call-up. However, he missed out due to injury.
Over time he fell out of favour with Newcastle and became more of a utility player. By the time the Magpies were in the Championship his game time has significantly diminished. He stated in a piece by the Daily Express that under Rafa Benitez he was “treated more like a number than a human being.”
Since the move to Nottingham Forest, he’s found himself to mostly be a mainstay in the team. He has 32 appearances to his name in a campaign where they’ve surged up the Championship table.

Steve Cooper is doing a brilliant job, having replaced Chris Hughton last year.
Colback has clearly found his level and is proving to be a useful player for Forest. Next season he might find himself back in the Premier League and up against Newcastle.
However, it doesn’t look like Bruce will be returning to the top flight. The defeat leaves his West Brom side in 12th place.
