Newcastle transfer news: Real Madrid ask Chelsea about Armando Broja

Newcastle United target Armando Broja is now interesting Real Madrid.

That’s according to the Evening Standard, who claim the European champions have asked Chelsea about possibly signing the striker.

That would be an incredible turn of events for the 20-year-old who recently missed out on a move to West Ham. It seemed for all the world that Broja was joining the Hammers, who appeared to have beaten Newcastle and Everton to the forward.

But that deal has now collapsed, with David Moyes bringing in Gianluca Scamacca instead.

This development brought Newcastle back to the table, but he doesn’t appear to be any closer to move to St James’ Park.

The Telegraph reported that Newcastle’s interest in Broja has cooled after they found out he would expect to be a guaranteed starter on Tyneside. That sadly isn’t possible, with Callum Wilson set to lead the line.

There’s also the issue that Chelsea don’t want to sell him permanently, while he isn’t keen on a loan. The Broja situation is a bit of a mess, and now it involves Real Madrid of all clubs.

Real Madrid now want Armando Broja

The Evening Standard state that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are looking to sign a young forward this summer. Broja certainly falls under that category, and they state that he is a target for Los Blancos.

Whether they want him on loan or permanently is unclear. Chelsea aren’t so keen on letting him go forever, while Broja doesn’t want a temporary departure. But perhaps he might feel different if it’s to Real Madrid.

Alternatively, why move your life abroad and be the Real Madrid backup when he is already the Chelsea backup?

It’s a difficult situation for Broja, who has played a lot of first-team football over the past couple of years. He was at Vitesse, then got a chance in the Premier League with Southampton last season.

He scored nine goals in all competitions, and earned praise from Alan Shearer who branded him as ‘clinical‘.

Kind words from the Newcastle legend, but the Magpies look likely to miss out on the Albania international. That’s a shame, as he feels like a good fit for Eddie Howe’s squad, but his demands and interest from Madrid surely make a move doubtful.
