Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that talks are continuing over Jesse Lingard joining Newcastle this month.
After picking up a vital three points away at Leeds, Toon attentions will now turn back to the transfer window. Despite getting our second win of the season, the Magpies’ Premier League future is still in the balance.
We still need to add reinforcements this week to aid us in the second half of the season. We are now entering the final week of the window, and it’s set to be a very busy seven days for the club.
Lingard was one of the main topics of conversation last week after it emerged Newcastle were once again trying to sign the 29-year-old.

The Magpies even tried to speed through a deal so that he could feature against Leeds. But, of course, that didn’t happen.
Instead, Newcastle went to Elland Road with no more new recruits and secured a pivotal 1-0 win. Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard sat on the bench while his current employers Man United beat West Ham 1-0.
Newcastle set to continue Jesse Lingard talks
Despite last week’s setback, the Magpies haven’t given up on signing Lingard before the deadline strikes.
And according to Romano, Newcastle will ‘push again’ for the midfielder today.
Newcastle are desperate to sign Lingard, with it previously being reported they’ll do ‘whatever it takes’ to get him.
Romano has reiterated this, stating Newcastle are ‘working hard’ even to just secure a deal until the end of the season.
It’s Lingard’s contract situation that complicates matters. His current Red Devils deal ends this summer, so Man United don’t want him to go on loan and effectively leave for nothing. They want to sell now and get some money for him.

On the other side, Lingard wants to become a free agent in the summer and assess his options, rather than sign a new deal with Man United or agree a permanent move to Newcastle.
Then there’s the Magpies, who appear to be waiting eagerly to get the green light for any deal they can do.
Interestingly, Romano said similar about Diego Carlos and Newcastle late last week, and we still await more movement on that deal…
