Newcastle transfer news: Magpies ready fresh Diego Carlos move

Newcastle United are still not giving up in their bid to sign Diego Carlos this month.

The 28-year-old has been our primary defensive target since the Sven Botman deal collapsed, but this is proving to be equally as tricky.

The past few days have been a whirlwind of rumour and speculation. It started with talk that a deal was close, then by Wednesday night he was playing a full 90 minutes for Sevilla.

The Express reported that Newcastle were going to pull the plug on the £30million deal, while other outlets claim that the Magpies are still confident. Meanwhile, there is an apparent threat of ‘another club’ trying to snap up the Brazilian from under our noses.

Now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has had his say, and he expects Newcastle to launch a fresh bid soon.

Romano says Diego Carlos still wants Newcastle move

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Newcastle will push again in the next hours for Diego Carlos. Sevilla are trying to resist in every way as they did for Koundé/Chelsea deal last summer – but Newcastle are willing to insist. Key hours ahead.

“Diego already agreed personal terms days ago. He’s waiting.”

No Diego Carlos against Leeds for Newcastle

The fact Carlos is still keen to join the Magpies is very important. He hasn’t been swayed by his current employers’ attempts to keen him.

While Sevilla managed to resist Chelsea’s offer for Jules Kounde last year, Newcastle are proving to be much more relentless.

The Magpies are much more desperate for a centre-back, but time isn’t on their side. Every second that passes we edge a little closer to the end of the window. And the closer we get to the end of the window, the less chance Sevilla have of landing a replacement.

But if the player is keen and Newcastle have put a strong financial offer on the table, Sevilla should respect their player’s wishes. However, football doesn’t always work like that. He is under contract, after all.

One thing is for sure, and that’s that Carlos won’t be in Newcastle’s starting XI tomorrow against Leeds. That’s a real blow, as it means we will go into another Premier League game with our current crop of players.

Will this be the occasion they step up? Here’s hoping, but last week hardly fills us with confidence…
