News broke on Tuesday night of Newcastle United reportedly launching a bid for Bruno Guimaraes.
Multiple outlets have stated that the Magpies have made an offer for the Lyon midfielder. According to the Guardian, Newcastle have bid £33.5million for the Brazilian.
There have even been reports in Brazil that the offer has been accepted by the Ligue 1 side. However, those claims appear to be wide of the mark at the moment.

Regardless, it’s very exciting to see us launch a bid for such an exciting player. Guimaraes is a wanted man, with both Arsenal and Juventus chasing his signature. It would be a real coup if we could get him to St James’ Park.
Bruno Guimaraes open to Newcastle move
The Athletic have also reported on the Magpies’ bid to sign the 24-year-old. And they add that he is keen on joining Eddie Howe’s team.

That is a real boost, as he is an incredibly ambitious target. The Athletic state that Newcastle’s bid is close to Lyon’s asking price, which is encouraging.
That should mean there’s a decent chance the offer will be accepted, unless the French side decide to drive up the price like Sevilla did with Diego Carlos.
Guimaraes would walk into our midfield, a position that definitely needs improvement. He’s a three-time Brazil international, and won Olympic gold last year in Japan.

If we can get this deal over the line, he could be a transformative signing. We have multiple midfielders in our squad, but none as complete as Guimaraes.
His vision is exceptional and he’s composed under pressure, while he also isn’t shy of a tackle and uses his strength to his advantage. He’s not bad at penalties either, even if his run up is unconventional.
Guimaraes was linked with Newcastle earlier in the month, but didn’t feel like a realistic target. But with the clock ticking and the pressure on PIF to deliver, the Magpies have made a move.
