It looks like Bruno Guimaraes will be Newcastle United’s next January signing.

The Magpies have so far brought in Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, but securing a third deal has proven to be tricky.

Amanda Staveley and co have suffered multiple transfer setbacks over the past week, but finally got some good news on Thursday night.

TalkSPORT were the first to report that the Magpies have had a bid accepted by Lyon for the 24-year-old. According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle will pay £35million for the midfielder, plus a potential £8million in bonuses. He will reportedly complete his medical today in South America.

It will make Guimaraes Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever, in between Joe Willock and Joelinton.

This will be the statement signing the Toon owners have craved, and could hopefully kickstart a late recruitment surge.

More signings will hopefully follow Bruno Guimaraes to Newcastle

While the Guimaraes news is fantastic, Toon officials won’t be resting on their laurels. They’ll know that Newcastle still need more reinforcements.

The Magpies are still yet to add a centre-back, while they’re reportedly waiting for Bayer Leverkusen to sign a replacement for Mitchel Bakker, who could be North East bound.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle’s owners are confident they’ll make three more signings before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Centre-back has to be the next priority, although that’s been the case for most of the month. Moves for Sven Botman and Diego Carlos have collapsed, with Lille and Sevilla refusing to do business.

Newcastle do still have the option of dipping into the loan market, which seems highly likely given the looming deadline.

For now, Toon fans will be buzzing about the potential arrival of Guimaraes. He’s a top class midfielder, and looks set to be a real coup.
