Newcastle United’s bid to sign Jack Harrison is likely to end in disappointment.
That’s according to the Athletic’s Chris Waugh, who states that Leeds are ‘adamant’ they won’t sell the 25-year-old this summer.
The Magpies returned with a fresh bid for Harrison last week, putting more than £20million on the table. However, the offer was turned down by Jesse Marsch and co.
They are desperate to keep the winger, who has had an extraordinary start to the season. He’s already got four goal contributions in three games.

That’s why Leeds are certain they won’t sell Harrison – unless Newcastle submit a mega offer. However, that is unlikely according to Waugh.
Waugh states Leeds won’t sell Harrison
Speaking on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, Waugh has provided Newcastle fans with an update on the club’s bid to sign Harrison.
“Leeds are adamant he’s [Harrison] not leaving,” Waugh said.
“He will not be sold this summer unless Newcastle go north of £40million, which I don’t think they are prepared to do.

“Still got two years left on his contract, played very well at the weekend for Leeds as well. He’s someone Eddie Howe would really like but that one’s looking unlikely.”
Blow for Newcastle
While he isn’t the most glamorous name Newcastle have been linked with this summer, he would have been a really good signing.
He’s the type of player that the Magpies need, and seems like the right kind of character for Eddie Howe. He was previously praised for his efforts under Marcelo Bielsa, and that pressing style would make him a good fit at St James’ Park.

The former MLS ace can also play on either wing, which is the kind of versatility that Howe is looking for. Harrison brings goals, assists and discipline off the ball. That’s what Newcastle want.
But while Newcastle want him, Leeds hold the power. They don’t need to sell, and will only accept a ridiculous offer.
While he fits the bill for the Magpies, spending more than £40million on Harrison would be a mistake. We’ve done well not to overspend since the change of ownership, and the hierarchy won’t want to buck that trend.
They will search again for value in the transfer window, even if it means missing out on players who would be a perfect fit.
