Newcastle transfer news: Jesse Lingard impressed by Kieran Trippier deal

Newcastle United are reportedly trying to sign Jesse Lingard on loan this month.

The Manchester United man was heavily linked before Christmas, but talk of a move to St James’ Park went cold after the Athletic stated that he wouldn’t be leaving Old Trafford in January.

However, it looks like the goalposts have shifted. That’s because the Manchester Evening News have claimed that the Magpies are looking to land Lingard on loan.

WAYNE ROONEY TO EVERTON IS A JOKE.

Sky Sports have backed up the claim, and provided more details on the possibility of Lingard wearing a black and white shirt. And they claim that one of the Magpies’ newest signings could help convince the 29-year-old to join the club.

Jesse Lingard is good friends with Newcastle star Kieran Trippier

Newcastle have made two signings so far this month, bringing in Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley. Trippier was the first to join, signing with the club on January 7th.

Both deals have been praised by Toon fans, with sensible additions looking like our best route towards Premier League survival.

Landing Trippier was something of a coup though. He left Champions League football to join a relegation battle.

It was hoped that his arrival would inspire others to join, and it looks like that could be the case.

Sky Sports state that Lingard is close friends with Trippier, and is impressed by Newcastle’s ability to sign a player of his ability. We’re impressed too Jesse, not going to lie…

The report adds that Lingard would be interested in an offer from the Magpies, but may prefer a permanent deal rather than a loan. His Man United contract expires this summer.

Whatever type of deal it is, Lingard would be a dream signing for Newcastle – and another sensible addition.
