Newcastle United want Jack Harrison to leave Leeds and join them this summer, but the player’s stance remains unknown.

The Magpies are looking to make the 25-year-old one of their next signings, as Eddie Howe looks to bring in a winger.

Plenty of names have been linked, and Harrison appears to be the primary target at the moment. However, the two teams are seemingly far apart on agreeing a price.

Leeds won’t sell until their asking price is met, and they will also need the seal of approval from Harrison.

What must happen for Harrison to leave Leeds

According to Leeds Live, two things must happen before Newcastle get their man. The Magpies must offer a fee that allows Leeds to sign a replacement, and Harrison must ask to leave Elland Road.

As it stands, neither of those things have happened.

The biggest issue is the price. Jesse Marsch’s side want £35million for the wide midfielder. However, that’s £10million more than Newcastle are prepared to pay.

Dan Ashworth and co reportedly value Harrison at £25million, and have so far offered just £17million. According to Leeds Live, that offer was ‘derisory’. That’s a scathing assessment of Newcastle’s opening bid.

Agreeing a price for an attacking signing is proving to be a real issue for the Magpies. Club’s are demanding a lot of money. However, there are cases where Newcastle simply aren’t offering enough.

The Harrison situation probably lies somewhere in the middle. He’s overpriced, but Leeds do not need to sell. They’ve already lost their two best players this summer. Why would they want to sell a third to a rival?

If Newcastle are serious about signing Harrison, they need to increase their offer. Only then will Leeds consider selling. After that, we need the player to help force the move. However, that all depends on whether or not he wants to come to St James’ Park.

At this moment in time, a Toon move for Harrison feels unlikely.
