Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, and Fabrizio Romano has provided some information on how much the winger will cost.
The Shakhtar Donetsk youngster could leave the Ukrainian side in January, and Newcastle are one of multiple clubs across Europe who are tracking the 21-year-old.
That’s according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who adds that Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen and Ajax are also looking at Mudryk. He’s also been linked with a move to Arsenal, with a plethora of clubs keeping an eye on a player who has the potential to become a real star.
Mudryk failed to secure a move away in the summer, but has started the new season with Shakhtar incredibly well. He’s already scored twice in the Champions League, finding the net against Celtic and RB Leipzig. On top of that, he has two assists in Europe as well.
It’s clear why Newcastle and so many other clubs are looking at him, but how much will a transfer cost in January for a player dubbed the ‘Ukrainian Neymar‘?
Romano on how much Mudryk will cost
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided some information on Mudryk’s future. He expects a lot of teams to be chasing the Ukraine international’s signature, and has given his view on how much money Shakhtar will demand for him.
“I think he will be linked with 15 clubs in the next three months, and it’s normal as he’s a top talent, but nothing will be decided now,” Romano told Caught Offside.
“Shakhtar will take their time and I’m sure they want more than €45-50million for Mudryk … but we’ve to see how his performances in the Champions League will be in the next weeks.”
Converted into pounds, that means Mudryk could cost between £39million and £44million. If Newcastle are going to bring him to St James’ Park, they will have to make him one of their most expensive signings ever.
This correlates with what Shakhtar sporting director Darijo Srna recently said about Mudryk.

“Mudryk is a serious talent,” he said.
“After Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, he’s the best player in Europe in his position. If someone wants to buy Mudryk they must spend a lot, a lot, a lot of money and respect our club and our president.”
Newcastle will have to spend big to sign Mudryk in January
Mudryk is going to cost a lot of money, and the Toon owners have already proven they are willing to break the bank for the right player. They did it in the summer, breaking the club’s transfer record to sign Alexander Isak for £59million.
But will we see another big outlay in January? Quite possibly, especially given rumours that James Maddison will once again be a target. There must be money there to spend.
However, the amount of competition for Mudryk could be an issue. Amanda Staveley and co won’t want to engage in a bidding war and inevitably pay over the odds.
