Diego Carlos is reportedly still on the Newcastle United’s shortlist heading into the summer transfer window.
The Sevilla ace almost joined the Magpies in January, but the two clubs failed to agree a fee.
Carlos instead remained in La Liga, where Sevilla have dropped off massively in the race for the title.
It had been claimed that Newcastle were going to move on from Carlos this summer. The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope wrote on Twitter that a transfer was ‘looking less likely‘ and that he was perhaps only one for January.

But the Chronicle report that the 29-year-old is still a target for the Magpies. However, they will not entertain a bidding war for the centre-back.
In fact, they already have a potentially cheaper option lined up.
Gleison Bremer could cost Newcastle less than Diego Carlos
The Chronicle report that Torino’s Gleison Bremer is also on Newcastle’s defensive shortlist. They add that he could be available for a lower price than Carlos.
Bremer is 25-years-old, which makes him four years younger than Carlos. He’s younger and potentially cheaper – it’s no wonder the Magpies are looking at him as a backup plan.

However, Newcastle might face competition for Bremer. He’s been linked with some big clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Inter Milan.
The Magpies struggled to land a centre-back in January, but their pursuit should be a little easier in the summer.
Of course, negotiations will still be tricky, but teams are a lot more willing to sell during the off-season.
Newcastle have plenty of options. It’s up to Eddie Howe and co to pick the best one.
