Newcastle United have reportedly made an offer to sign Christian Eriksen this summer.
That’s according to the Times, who claim the midfielder is mulling over the Magpies’ offer.
Eriksen is set to become a free agent in the coming days, with his current Brentford deal expiring on June 30th.
That’s led to a plethora of Premier League clubs chasing his signature – including Newcastle.

Toon in the mix for Eriksen
After missing out in January, it was reported in April that the Magpies could make a move for the 30-year-old.
However, there has also been intense interest from Tottenham and Manchester United. He also has the opportunity to stay with Brentford.
Despite claims that Newcastle wanted talks with Eriksen, it looked like Man United and Brentford were the frontrunners. That’s who he was set to decide between last week according to Sky Sports.
But the Times’ report of an offer from Newcastle suggests we are still in with a chance of signing him. They add that Everton and Leicester have also made a move to sign the playmaker.
He would be a great addition on a free, and add something different to an ever improving Magpies midfield.

Move to Newcastle feels unlikely despite offer
It’s exciting to hear that Newcastle have made an offer for Eriksen. However, a move to St James’ Park doesn’t feel likely.
It was reported in January that Eriksen only wanted to live in London, while Sky stated last week that his family were unsure about a move to Manchester. Newcastle is even further away from London than Manchester, so that is one sizeable hurdle to overcome.
Perhaps we can get Kevin Keegan to help with negotiations – he managed to convince Rob Lee that Newcastle was closer than Middlesbrough to the capital!
In all honesty, staying with Brentford feels the most likely outcome. With all due respect to Brentford, that would be a surprise on paper given the options available to him.

However, it speaks volumes about his role in West London. He joined the Bees in January, making an emotional return to football after suffering a cardiac arrest last year.
He played brilliantly in a red and white shirt, with Thomas Frank calling him ‘unbelievable’.
The Denmark international proved to be a pivotal cog in a system that suited him whilst playing for a manager he knows well. With a World Cup on the horizon, why would he give that up?
Newcastle still appear to be in the mix to sign Eriksen, and it would be great to get this deal over the line, but it doesn’t feel likely at the moment.
