Newcastle transfer news: Brighton expect Magpies to move for Yves Bissouma

Yves Bissouma could leave Brighton this summer, in news that will no doubt interest Newcastle United.

The Magpies were linked with the midfielder at the start of the year, as they went in search of the recruits who could help guide them to safety.

By the end of the window, five new faces had arrived, including one centre-midfielder. However, it was Bruno Guimaraes rather than Bissouma.

The Brazilian has been magical in a black and white shirt, and has quickly established himself as the best player at the club. He’s certainly the best midfielder we’ve had since Yohan Cabaye.

However, it has been reported that Newcastle could look to sign another centre-midfielder this summer. That could lead us back to Brighton’s number eight. That’s what the Seagulls are expecting at least.

Brighton believe Newcastle will push for Yves Bissouma

According to the Daily Mail, Brighton are preparing for Newcastle and Aston Villa to push to sign the 25-year-old this summer. Both clubs were linked in January.

Villa’s need for Bissouma may have decreased after they confirmed a deal to sign Boubacar Kamara on a free, who was previously linked with Newcastle.

But Eddie Howe’s side could be in the mix for Bissouma, with the Daily Mail reporting earlier in the year that Newcastle were discussing a move for him.

It’s no surprise Brighton are expecting a bid, as the Magpies have truly raided the south coast club since the takeover. Dan Burn signed for £13million, while Dan Ashworth is set to arrive this year. There have also been rumours linking us with Leandro Trossard and Robert Sanchez, as well as Bissouma.

The Mali international would certainly be a positive addition, with Bissouma excelling in the Brighton midfield over the past couple of years. And he’s certainly set to be a man in demand.

Bissouma would cost Newcastle £30million

The Times reported earlier this month that Brighton want £30million if they’re to sell Bissouma. That’s a decrease on his asking price in January, when he was valued at £50million.

While he’s suddenly a lot cheaper, he also has more clubs chasing him. The Times claim Spurs are keen.

They can offer Champions League football, which Newcastle can’t. Interestingly, Graham Potter actually described Bissouma as ‘Champions League level‘ after his performance against Spurs last month.

But that won’t put the Magpies off if they do decide to make a move. We’ve already brought in big names this year like Bruno and Kieran Trippier.

Bissouma would be another smart signing. He’s someone who would improve our midfield.

Brighton are prepared for a bid; now we wait to see if Newcastle do indeed make a move.
