Newcastle United have been linked with signing Bamba Dieng this summer, and the forward is now reportedly near the top of our list of targets.

That’s according to 90min, who state the 22-year-old is very likely to secure a move to the Premier League before the transfer window closes.

Dieng will be allowed to leave Marseille this summer, and reportedly has interest from Leeds, Everton and Celtic.

The Magpies are also keen to sign the Senegal international, who was also a Toon target in January.

Now Newcastle are interested again, and are hoping to win the race to secure his signature.

How much Marseille want for Bamba Dieng

According to 90min, Dieng is available for just £15million. They add that Marseille already have a replacement lined up, with Alexis Sanchez being linked with a move to France.

That fee makes Dieng very affordable for Newcastle, who are searching for players to boost their attacking options without overspending.

Eddie Howe started the new season with no new attackers in his side, but had enough to beat Nottingham Forest 2-0. However, we need more goals and creativity, which is why Dieng is a target.

The ‘new Sadio Mane’ is now near the top of Newcastle’s transfer list

Dieng can play through the middle as a striker or out wide, which will appeal to Howe. That kind of versatility would make him a good option off the bench. He’s quick too, with the Ligue 1 official website stating that he has an ‘electric turn of pace‘.

He scored seven Ligue 1 goals in 25 appearances last season, but his best moment came at the start of 2022.

Dieng was part of the Senegal squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations, beating Egypt in the final. The game went to penalties, where Dieng converted his spot kick from 12 yards. He showed real bravery to step up and deliver for his country.

Sadio Mane then scored the decisive penalty, and the former Liverpool forward is someone who Dieng has been compared to.

That’s high praise for the Toon target, and suggests why he could be a good addition. Dieng is now reportedly near the top of Newcastle’s transfer list, so we will wait to see if an official bid materialises.
