Newcastle United are experiencing their first real bumps in the road since the PIF takeover was completed.
It has been a mixed start to the season for Newcastle, who have picked up some great results against big sides but only sit 11th in the Premier League table after 10 games played.

Newcastle beat title-chasing Arsenal 1-0 on Saturday afternoon and have also beaten Tottenham and Chelsea this season while drawing with reigning champions Manchester City.
When it comes down to it – Newcastle have proven they can mix it with the Premier League’s best, yet Eddie Howe is still lacking a squad that can compete at the top.

PSR has stopped Newcastle from joining Premier League title race
The Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules have become a nightmarish topic for Newcastle fans.
The regulations in place ensure that top-flight teams can only lose a certain amount of money over a three-season spell or will face a points deduction as a result – as found out by Everton and Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle were forced to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh this summer to comply with the regulations, and they continue to limit the transfer budget available to Howe.
Despite the immense wealth of Newcastle’s Saudi Arabian owners, they have hardly been able to spend a penny.
As per Martin Samuel via The Times, he believes Newcastle “should be” in the title race if the restrictive PSR regulations did not exist.
He argues that Newcastle have to “pretend they are poor” due to rules designed to keep the elite at the top.
PSR could ruin Newcastle transfer plans
Newcastle ended up making a net profit from the summer transfer window after being forced to sell before the PSR cut-off date in June.
It completely hamstrung the budget available to Howe and sporting director Paul Mitchell, and it is still holding the club back now.

Howe hinted that PSR will impact Isak’s contract talks as the club still have to be careful about their spending.
Newcastle are eager to strengthen their squad with a new right winger in January, but once again PSR has shrunk the available budget.
Newcastle are on an upward trajectory under new owners, but the restrictive PSR means they have had to plan for the long term.
