Well-known and well-connected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Crystal Palace, as well as Valencia, have asked for Donny van de Beek on loan. Newcastle United has been linked with the Dutchman this window, with the Manchester Evening News claiming they had been offered him on loan.

However, The Telegraph later reported that the 24-year-old turned down the loan move. It seems that the Magpies have turned their attention to other midfielders.

The same report by Romano states that any loan for the midfielder will not include an option to buy. It appears that the club wants to keep hold of van de Beek next season.

Newcastle have other targets, they should pursue those instead of Van de Beek

There are other targets in midfield Newcastle have their eyes on as well as van de Beek. Another Manchester United midfielder is also on the Toon Army’s radar. Jesse Lingard has been linked with a loan move to Tyneside, as well as Dele Alli of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea’s Ross Barkley according to 90min.com.

Of the three, Lingard is definitely the best option. He would offer a spark to the midfield and could well add goals and assists to Newcastle. His loan stint at West Ham United last season was a contributing factor to a stellar season for the Hammers. It would be a great pick-up for Newcastle should they land him.

Alli wouldn’t be such a bad option either. He’s been out of form for a while but has shown glimpses here and there. He played well in December against Liverpool, which saw the teams draw 2-2. With a point to prove and a chance at consistent first-team football, he’d be a good choice as a Lingard backup.

As for Barkley, he’s struggled. His loan move at Aston Villa went from hot to cold very quickly last season and has never got going for the blues since joining in 2018.

A move for Van de Beek to Newcastle doesn’t seem on the cards. It appears as if the Dutchman isn’t interested and the Magpies should focus their business elsewhere.

Lingard and Alli are the two midfielders the Toon Amry should definitely look into. Either midfielder would add goals and creativity in an often lacking Newcastle midfield.
