After legal proceedings were delayed this summer, there has been limited takeover news for Newcastle fans to sink their teeth into.
The saga still isn’t over, much to the anger of supporters. A lot of fans are desperate for a deal to happen, while others are sick of the constant rumour and innuendo. Until there’s official news, they won’t entertain it.
PCP Capital Partners agreed a deal to buy Newcastle United last April. However, the Premier League did not grant them approval. They did not deny them either, creating a state of limbo.

The deal didn’t happen in 2020, but dragged on into 2021 with Mike Ashley launching two legal challenges against the Premier League.
However, arbitration has now been delayed until early next year, despite it initially being set to take place this summer. As for the CAT case, that is a much lengthier process. Jurisdiction over the Premier League’s evidence is set to take place this month.
Since arbitration was delayed, we haven’t heard from any members of the consortium. Before the decision was made, Amanda Staveley did multiple interviews as she called on the Premier League for transparency.
Alas, Staveley’s efforts failed. Since then there has been silence.

But according to Newcastle World’s Liam Kennedy, there is still confidence.
When asked about the takeover in a Q&A, Kennedy wrote: “Sources close to the Reubens, whose part of the deal is notably headed up by Jamie Reuben, have made it known in the last few days they remain supremely confident they will get the deal done for NUFC.”
Of course, noises of confidence mean nothing until it’s official. Staveley made the same noises herself on TalkSPORT.
This is a takeover that Newcastle desperately need. We have seen this summer that Ashley has checked out. The lack of investment in the squad speaks volumes. And so does the statement defending the club’s actions.

Newcastle United have been going nowhere for a long time. A change of ownership would be a huge boost to supporters, many of whom are disenchanted with the club they love.
But the longer the saga goes on, the more difficult it is to believe it will happen. And that’s despite confidence from the buyers.
They were confident it would happen last year, remember?
