Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier has now shared how he really felt about Bayern Munich’s January bid for him.

The Bundesliga giants were looking to sign the defender for a fee of around £13m having made multiple bids for him, but Newcastle were unwilling to accept.

Speaking at the North East Football Writers Association awards, Trippier shared how he wasn’t even really considering leaving Newcastle for Munich as he’s happy with his current situation.

Trippier happy with life at Newcastle

There were concerns that given Newcastle’s poor position in the league at the time that they were going to cash in on Trippier while they could still recoup a decent fee.

At 33-years-old it’s likely that the experienced right-back will be in the final couple of seasons performing at the very highest level, so Newcastle could have looked to move forwards with Tino Livramento as his replacement.

However, neither the club nor the player particularly wanted the move and it was going to take something really extraordinary to change Trippier’s mind especially.

Having left Madrid in 2022 to take his family back home in the north of England, it would make little sense to relocate them once again to a foreign country when they had struggled so much in Spain.

On the move, Trippier said: “Of course [it’s flattering]. As I said, I’m 33 years old, I never thought that someone like Bayern would come in for me at the age that I’m at, so I take it as a compliment.

“A massive club – I think plenty of other players would have jumped at the chance to go to Bayern, and that’s fact.

“But I’ve been loyal to the club and my family is important – travelling three different countries in three years, it’s not really ideal, is it?”

Trippier still has a lot more to give

Having suffered a difficult spell towards the end of December, a lot of people had suggested that Trippier’s time at Newcastle would soon be coming to an end as individual mistakes were creeping into his game.

However, the former Tottenham man has come back from his poor spell and worked hard to get back to his best as of late, proving he can still perform at the highest level for Newcastle.

There may be a club returning for Trippier in the summer, be that Bayern Munich or somebody else, but right now, the defender is perfectly happy at Newcastle who will be hoping to get back into the Champions League next year.

Should they qualify for one of the other European tournaments this year they will certainly be needing Trippier’s experience if they are to be more successful than this season.
