If Newcastle miss out on the Champions League, perhaps the vultures will start to circle.

While there is little indication the club will have to sell players this summer, that’s not really the point.

Were that to be the case, some of the leading teams around Europe will naturally look to St James’ Park for potential recruits. European football’s elite competition is simply too tempting for so many players, after all.

Now, perhaps the idea of players leaving is a thing of the past for the Magpies in the PIF era, but that will do little to stop other clubs at least trying.

Still, that is not as worrying a prospect as it would have been in years gone by, such is the good feeling about the club these days.

Bruno Guimaraes to reject Manchester City

According to the Daily Mail, Bruno Guimaraes would reject any advances from Manchester City.

Despite admitting to having a good relationship with City boss Pep Guardiola, the report suggests the Brazil international is eager to stay on Tyneside and compete for trophies.

Guimaraes is also reportedly in line for a huge new contract, which would obviously strengthen the club’s position.

Newcastle have to fulfil their end of the bargain

As promising as that is to hear, Newcastle will have to prove they can truly compete in the years to come. Obviously, reaching their first domestic final in 24 years little under a year into the PIF era is a good start, but that will only last so long.

It’s clearly brilliant to have a player of such quality so keen on Newcastle. Now, the challenge is making sure he remains happy by offering constant avenues of success.

Newcastle simply cannot give any of their players a reason to want to change their minds.
