Bruno Guimaraes’ Brazil are once again the number one ranked team in the world.

That’s right – a Newcastle United player represents the best nation in world football.

It’s hard to believe what has happened to the Magpies over the past six months. The takeover has turned the club upside down, bringing fresh hope and belief to supporters.

It also led Bruno to St James’ Park in January. That was a real blockbuster deal – a transfer that could end up costing £42million.

To sign a Brazil international when the club was still in the relegation zone was a real statement of intent.

Newcastle have now moved away from danger, while Bruno’s international career is going from strength to strength.

Bruno Guimaraes has a week to remember with Brazil

The Toon midfielder added another two caps to his collection during the international break.

He came off the bench and grabbed an assist in a 4-0 win over Chile. Then things got even better a few days later against Bolivia.

Guimaraes started in La Paz, and grabbed himself another assist, setting up his good friend Lucas Paqueta. Then the 24-year-old scored himself – producing a wonderful volley for his first international goal.

It was a great night for Bruno and Brazil, who won 4-0.

And now the FIFA rankings have been updated, with Tite’s side replacing Belgium at the top. Brazil are now the number one ranked team in the world.

I won’t get tired of saying this – Newcastle have a player who regularly represents the number one nation in world football.
