As it stands, Sean Longstaff’s contract at Newcastle expires next summer.
The midfielder signed a four-year deal in December 2018, shortly before his Premier League debut.
Since then he’s broken into the first-team, played sensationally, got injured and missed out on a £50million move to Manchester United.
Longstaff has struggled at times under Steve Bruce. He’s been in and out of the team, unable to nail down a place in the starting XI.

However, things appear to be changing this season.
The 23-year-old has featured in every Premier League game so far, starting the last four.
His best performance of the season came against Watford, where he scored his first goal of the campaign with a wonderful long range strike.
Longstaff has been one of few Newcastle success stories so far, and it’s great to see him playing consistently once again.
But will he be at the club for much longer?

Sean Longstaff contract situation must be resolved soon
With the way he’s playing, Newcastle can’t afford to let Longstaff leave for nothing next summer, or for a cut-price fee in January.
He was linked with a move to Everton over the summer, and reports have stated that the Toffees could be keen once again when the transfer window re-opens.
With how he’s playing recently, that should come as no surprise.
Newcastle need to hand Longstaff a new deal, and they need to do it before January.

The midfielder is proving once again that he is a capable Premier League player, and he appears to be thriving in the absence of Jonjo Shelvey.
Losing him over the summer would’ve been hard to take, but losing him after his current form would be even worse.
Longstaff certainly deserves a new contract. Hopefully he wants to stay, because the club should be under no illusions about keeping him at St James’ Park.
