Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser has been shortlisted for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for February.

The Scotland international has put in some great displays for the Magpies in recent weeks, helping the club move up to 14th place in the table.

Fraser started all four of Newcastle’s matches last month.

He notched his first goal of the season against Everton at the start of the month, turning in Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross.

And he also grabbed a brilliant assist last weekend in the 2-0 win over Brentford. He found Joelinton with a cracking cross.

Fraser may have only made two goal contributions, but he has been a total livewire of late, and his work-rate has been absolutely superb.

He undoubtedly deserves this acknowledgement for what was a great month personally for him.

He is competing against Che Adams, Harry Kane, Ben Mee, Joel Matip and Wilfried Zaha for the award.

Adams, Kane and Zaha all bagged three goals each and are likely the favourites to scoop the latest gong.

It is rare, when it comes to these Player of the Month awards, that two players from the same club receive nominations.

But it is a slight shame to see Joelinton not being recognised for the brilliant month he had.

The Brazilian has been the absolute driving force for the Magpies during their fantastic recent upturn in form.

The South American was arguably the best player in every game last month. Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Joe Willock were also all very good. But Joelinton was the standout and can count himself very unlucky not to have been shortlisted.

It is really good to see Fraser among the nominees.

The 28-year-old really picked up his level last month, and is finally proving his worth at St. James’ Park after a disappointing first campaign.

It is just a shame Joelinton isn’t also in there with him.

The former Hoffenheim star has been integral for Newcastle operating in his new role as a box-to-box midfielder.

He may have missed out this time, but he is surely heading for Newcastle’s Player of the Year which will be hugely satisfying for him.
