Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Jarrod Bowen.

That’s according to 90min, who claim the Magpies are ready to compete for the West Ham star’s signature this summer.

Bowen is having the season of his life. The 25-year-old has been brilliant ever since he joined the Hammers, but he’s been exceptionally good during this campaign.

He currently has nine goals and eight assists in the Premier League, while he’s also played a part in West Ham’s successful Europa League campaign. David Moyes’ side are currently in the quarter finals, where they face Lyon in the second leg on Thursday night.

Bowen and West Ham are performing brilliantly together, so it’s no surprise to see other teams keen on landing the former Hull forward.

But he’s player who could already be at Newcastle – if it wasn’t for one man.

Seeing Bowen’s immense form for West Ham has been particularly painful for Toon fans who were desperate for him to move to St James’ Park a few years ago.

Steve Bruce reportedly wanted to sign him in 2019 shortly after his arrival. However, the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder claimed that then-owner Mike Ashley ‘refused‘ to pay the £20million asking price.

The Magpies were linked again a few months later, but once again wouldn’t pay the fee Hull wanted. The Telegraph reported in January 2020 that Ashley only wanted to pay £12million for Bowen.

Hull didn’t bite, and instead agreed a deal with West Ham worth £25million. The rest is history.

Now Bowen is a Toon target once again, but the goalposts have shifted. He’s a proven Premier League talent who is competing for a place in the top four. But Newcastle have ambitious owners in PIF who want to take the club to the top.

They have the chance to do what Ashley refused to do and bring Bowen to Tyneside. It’ll cost a lot more money this time, but it would certainly be worth it.

Bowen would walk into Eddie Howe’s starting XI, and would no doubt quickly prove what a mistake the previous ownership made by not signing him.
