A Newcastle United midfielder has posted a three-word message on his Instagram after missing the last 22 games due to a back injury.

Elliot Anderson’s injury was another unfortunate one to pick up with the 21-year-old suffering a stress fracture in his back in October and he hasn’t been seen since.

However, the midfielder today posted a photo of himself on Instagram in a Newcastle training top with a positive caption that suggests he’s not too far away from a return.

Anderson nearing a return to Newcastle’s first team

It’s been such a long time since Anderson last featured for Newcastle that it will practically feel like a new signing, especially after not bringing in any key players in the January window.

Since Anderson last played a game, both Joelinton and Joe Willock have picked up new injuries leaving Newcastle very short in midfield and in desperate need of reinforcements as soon as possible.

Although Anderson doesn’t necessarily play in the position that Newcastle are struggling with at the moment, Eddie Howe will no doubt be overjoyed to have another body available to play in that area.

Anderson can also play in a more wide position, so his versatility could certainly come in handy in the second half of the season if injuries continue to ravage this Newcastle squad.

On Instagram, Anderson posted: “Final few steps”.

Newcastle set to receive huge injury boost in coming weeks

It’s been such a difficult season for Howe to navigate given the added Champions League fixtures and an unbelievable amount of injuries that have severely limited what Newcastle can achieve.

However, in a months time Newcastle could have close to what would be a fully fit team assuming they don’t pick up any more serious injuries, which looks to be almost impossible at this rate.

Anderson along with Joe Willock is set to return soon, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak are expected to recover quickly while Newcastle very recently welcomed back Harvey Barnes against Luton who was missing for over four months.

Nick Pope is also believed to be on track to return in March, so that would give Newcastle a huge boots for their final run of fixtures in trying to climb back up the Premier League table into a European spot.
