Newcastle United have moved towards signing younger players of late.
The January window brought 21-year-old Harrison Ashby and 22-year-old Anthony Gordon to St James’ Park, following under under-25 additions of Alexander Isak and Sven Botman in the summer.
Indeed, Newcastle are looking to the future, all while strengthening their squad for the present too.

With ambitions to challenge for major trophies in the years to come, the club are now an exciting destination for promising young players.
Gone are the days when the likes of Lewis Gibson would move to join Everton after emerging through Newcastle’s ranks.
Now, the Magpies could even tempt players away from places like Manchester City.
Newcastle now keen on move for Kian Breckin
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are interested in 19-year-old City midfielder Kian Breckin.
They claim the Premier League champions could sell the teenager, with Leeds also casting keen eyes over his situation at the Etihad Stadium.
Described as a “cultured attacking midfielder” on the club’s official website, Breckin has never made a first-team appearance for City but has proven a palpable goal threat at youth level this season.
28 appearances across Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy and UEFA Youth League have yielded eight goals and four assists.
There is talent to be found in City’s academy
On the face of it, moving for a player not getting a game at City does not exactly seem like the biggest transfer chase a Newcastle team looking to compete in Europe could embark on.
Still, perhaps unsurprisingly, there is real talent to be found in City’s academy.

Take Romeo Lavia for example. The Belgian was struggling to impose himself at City but has since starred at Southampton even despite their relegation, earning links with a move to Newcastle as a result of his performances.
There is little shame in not getting into Pep Guardiola’s first-team, after all.
That’s not to say Breckin would necessarily be quite as impressive as Lavia has been but there is certainly precedent when it comes to prizing young talent away from City.
