Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes were the 159th and 160th different players to score for Newcastle United in the Premier League, according to Opta.

That means the Magpies now boast the joint-most scorers in Premier League history after last night’s 2-1 win over Southampton.

That figure is level with West Ham, and shows the impact of the January transfer window at Newcastle under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle fans have had to be patient. Wood went straight into the team but has had to wait for his first goal in Newcastle colours.

He deserves credit for his performance level not waning and he contributed plenty off the ball before he found the net last night.

Bruno has taken some time in training to get up to speed and get used to English football, with Howe having been careful in terms of unleashing him.

But Joelinton’s injury gave Howe a chance to bring Brun into his midfield without dropping out one of the three engine room players who have been doing so well.

Bruno took his chance with the matchwinner and now Howe has another welcome selection dilemma on his hands.

Those are good headaches to have going into the trip to Stamford Bridge, where the Magpies will look to continue that league unbeaten run and take advantage of the current situation at Chelsea.
