While Newcastle United stand still, Norwich are reportedly set to make an increased offer for Kristoffer Ajer.

That’s according to the Daily Record, who believe the Canaries will offer Celtic £12million for the defender.

The Athletic reported recently that Celtic had rejected a £10million offer from Norwich, as well as Bayer Leverkusen.

Now it looks as if the Premier League new boys are back with an improved bid.

Newcastle were heavily linked with Ajer at the start of the window, but talk of a move to St James’ Park has died down.

However, the Magpies reportedly haven’t given up hope of signing the 23-year-old.

But it looks like we could be fighting a losing battle.

Are Newcastle set for more disappointment amid Norwich’s Kristoffer Ajer offer?

Newcastle are desperate to sign a centre-back this summer. For a long time, it looked like it would be Ajer.

But, as always under Mike Ashley, the Magpies have dawdled, and it now looks like Norwich are firmly in the driving seat.

Daniel Farke’s side have already got one over on Newcastle this summer, adding Billy Gilmour on loan.

Signing Ajer as well would be a real hammer blow to Newcastle’s transfer hopes.

This summer is proving to be a bit of a farce for Steve Bruce’s side.

Takeover talk has taken over, with the club seemingly focussed on a change of ownership instead of preparing for the new season.

While supporters want change, it’s unclear when, or if, we will get it. But the new Premier League campaign is edging closer.

We have already lost key transfer battles without even a whimper.

And it looks like the Ajer saga is another one that is certain to go against Newcastle.
