Newcastle United’s Isaac Hayden has opened up on the ‘toughest’ season of his career so far.
He started the campaign in Steve Bruce’s starting XI, but ended it without a single minute of action in 2022.
It’s been a rollercoaster season for the club, and it’s been an up and down 12 months for Hayden. He hasn’t played since December 19th, and his Toon career could come to an end this summer.
If this is the end, he’s had a great six years at St James’ Park.

Isaac Hayden thanks fans for their supporter ‘over the last 6 years’
Following the conclusion of the 2021/22 campaign, Hayden has sent a message to supporters via his official Twitter account.
In the message, he admitted that the Magpies started the season ‘poorly’ but are now looking towards a brighter future. However, it was the ‘toughest’ season of his career.
He thanked fans for their support this season, and during his six seasons on Tyneside. This further hints that he’ll be leaving the club this summer. It’s been reported that he’s one of multiple fringe players who could be sold.
Hayden needs a move away after ‘toughest’ season yet
He’s been a loyal servant to Newcastle, but a move away is needed when the transfer window opens.
Hayden was an ever-present for Steve Bruce at the start of the campaign, but has barely been used by Howe.
He scored in front of the new Toon boss against Brighton ahead of his appointment, but that failed to win him a place in Howe’s starting XI.

Hayden started just twice for the Magpies after Howe’s arrival, with injury ending his season early. He underwent surgery at the end of last year, which subsequently saw him removed from the club’s Premier League squad.
The 27-year-old returned to training last month, but has been unable to play due to being ineligible.
And with more new faces set to join the club this summer, it’s impossible to see how Hayden can force his way back into the team.
As Hayden says, ‘everything happens for a reason’, and whoever signs him will be getting the ultimate professional. He’s been so reliable in black and white, playing here, there and everywhere. He’s always given 100% and will be remembered fondly by supporters.
