Newcastle United were linked with many a striker in January, but few of the names mentioned have been as lethal as Patrik Schick this season.
The Czech Republic international has been having a fantastic campaign over the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

Schick has been banging in the goals since the very beginning, and yesterday he was on target once again.
Leverkusen were in action against Stuttgart, and the 26-year-old was on hand to convert the final goal of the game in 89th minute
It was an action-packed final 10 minutes or so. Florian Wirtz scored to give Leverkusen a 3-1 lead, but Tiago Tomas pulled one back for the visitors.
But Schick ensured there would be no comeback for Stuttgart when he popped up in box to convert Wirtz’s cross.
That was Schick’s 19th goal of the season – all of them coming in the Bundesliga.
For context, he is second in the goalscoring charts, seven behind Robert Lewandowski, but three ahead of Erling Haaland in third.

Newcastle were linked with a move for Schick.
Sky Sports reported the Magpies had interest in the player.
But ultimately, a deal was always going to be difficult to do. Leverkusen are looking to secure Champions League football for next season.
Retaining Schick was crucial, and they slapped a £50 million asking price on him to deter potential suitors.
The club might listen to offers in the summer, and Schick is certainly someone Newcastle should be keeping a close eye on.
Patrik Schick looks the real deal and Newcastle need to monitor
19 goals already this season is some going by Newcastle-linked Patrik Schick.
It is unclear how close Newcastle actually got to signing the player last month.
Newcastle only brought in Chris Wood, which is something that happened after the Schick reports. It is possible the capture of the New Zealand international caused Newcastle to look at other players.

He is definitely worth the club keeping an eye on.
To be rubbing shoulders with Lewandowski and Haaland is a clear indicator of his talent.
Newcastle will need another centre-forward in the summer and he could be a very exciting addition. Schick is known to watch the Premier League, and he may consider a proposal.
