Newcastle United are now showing interest in signing a top Premier League player who Alan Shearer has previously claimed he is a huge fan of.
News emerged yesterday that Newcastle have entered the race to sign Nottingham’s Forest Morgan Gibbs-White as they look to transform their squad for next season.
Back in 2019, Shearer shared how he was a huge fan of Gibbs-White and believed that he could make it to the top in the next few years.
Shearer thinks Newcastle target could be an England star
Though it was only early days in his career, Shearer saw the quality that the then 19-year-old possessed and predicted him to go on to have a very successful career on an international scale.
While he’s not yet achieved that first cap, he can’t be too far away from it after some stellar performances for Nottingham Forest both this season and last following his £42.5m move from Wolves in 2022.
With rumours that Miguel Almiron could be placed on the market for Newcastle after Al-Shabab’s opening offer, Gibbs-White may be the perfect candidate to replace the Paraguayan.
At just 23-years-old he still has a long way to go an more room to develop into a top Premier League star has Shearer suggested he would all those years ago before Newcastle showed any interest.
On Gibbs-White, Shearer said: “Right now, he looks very comfortable on the ball, doesn’t look fazed by the Premier League at all and is gaining valuable experience by the week.
“I hope he can progress at Wolves and go on to have an England career, as he looks a really good prospect.”

Gibbs-White won’t come cheap for Newcastle
Having signing for a significant fee 18 months ago, Gibbs-White isn’t going to be much cheaper having now proved that he is capable of being a top talent in England’s first division.
That said, Forest are currently at risk of breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules so they may be forced to sell some of their more talented assets for a bargain price in order to balance the books and avoid punishment.
This would be the perfect time for Newcastle to capitalise as they themselves are also struggling to navigate around the restrictions while still competing for a Champions League spot.
As long as he gets Shearer’s approval, Newcastle fans would be more than happy with the signing of Gibbs-White in the summer as part of a big push to improve the squad.
