Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has set his sights on improving in 2022 after achieving some lifetime goals in 2021.

The 24-year-old started the year in the midst of his second season-long loan at Championship side Swansea City where he helped the Welsh side reach the play-off final.

Although the Swans lost the final 2-0 to Brentford, Woodman finished the campaign by winning the Championship golden glove.

The England under-21 international registered 21 clean sheets throughout the season, four more than his closest challengers.

With Martin Dubravka injured and Karl Darlow suffering from the aftereffects of Covid-19, Woodman started the season as Newcastle’s number one.

On his Premier League debut, Newcastle’s number 27 saved a penalty from West Ham’s star man Michail Antonio.

However, with Steve Bruce’s Newcastle on the cusp of getting into half-time at Old Trafford goalless, Woodman spilled a Mason Greenwood shot, which allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to tap home his first goal of his second Manchester United spell.

Following the 4-1 defeat at the Theatre of Dreams, Woodman suffered a hip injury in training, which saw him lose his place to Darlow before Dubravka eventually returned and reclaimed the starting berth.

Woodman hadn’t featured in the matchday squad since his last appearance, but with Darlow absent he returned to the bench for Monday night’s draw against United.

Reflecting on what he had achieved in 2021, Woodman posted on his Instagram account where he vowed to learn from his errors in 2022.

His former club Swansea responded to his Instagram post which highlights the affection the Welsh side still have for Woodman.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Freddie Woodman return to the Championship outfit in the forthcoming January transfer window and get some much-needed minutes under his belt during the second half of the campaign.
