Newcastle fans can’t believe what Peter Schmeichel said about Steve Bruce last night

Ex-Newcastle boss Steve Bruce would be ‘fantastic’ for Manchester United.

That’s according to former Red Devils goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

Man United are looking for a new manager after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

And Bruce is apparently keen, with the Athletic reporting that he believes he can stabilise the dressing room. This comes a month after saying he may never manage again after his Newcastle nightmare

But ‘man of his word’ Bruce has been backed by his former teammate Schmeichel.

Speaking about the Man United manager situation on CBS Sports Golazo, Schmeichel said: “If it’s an interim, get somebody who knows the club. Get somebody who’s known by the club as well.

“Get someone like Steve Bruce, that would be fantastic.”

While Schmeichel may defend himself by saying he said ‘someone like Steve Bruce’, who is more like Steve Bruce than the bacon enthusiast himself?

Ernesto Valverde talks begin

However, it looks like Schmeichel won’t get his wish. According to reports, the Red Devils have contacted Ernesto Valverde about becoming manager.

That’s a blow for Bruce, and it’s a blow for Toon fans. They were desperate to see the 60-year-old get the job at Old Trafford.

Newcastle regressed during his tenure, but were told endlessly that Bruce was doing a good job – despite all evidence suggesting otherwise.

It’s actually frightening that we’re talking about Bruce and the Manchester United job. It’s even more frightening that an ex-pro like Schmeichel believes it would be a good idea.

Toon fans can’t simply believe what the 58-year-old said live on air last night.
