Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow has released a video explaining their decision to sell Jack Grealish, and Newcastle United fans are stunned.
Manchester City confirmed the signing of the midfielder on Thursday evening, with Grealish becoming the most expensive player in Premier League history.
It’s a decision that has obviously upset some Villa fans. Grealish was the captain and a local lad.
In an attempt to explain to supporters why the 25-year-old has gone, the Villa CEO released a five minute video on Twitter.
Purslow is incredibly open. He discusses an agreement made with Grealish last summer when he signed a new contract.
He also added that steps have been made to improve the squad, with the likes of Leon Bailey, Emiliano Buendia and Danny Ings arriving.
It was exactly what you want to see as a fan. Purslow was honest and transparent.
If only Mike Ashley treated Newcastle fans like this
It was incredibly refreshing, as you rarely hear from people high up at top level football clubs. It certainly never happens at Newcastle.
The only time supporters have heard from Ashley recently is when he’s been taking digs at the Premier League over the failed takeover.
As for Lee Charnley, goodness knows the last time fans heard from him.
The transparency from Purslow is commendable. While Villa fans are hurt by Grealish’s departure, they understand the reasons for it.
It’s this kind of transparency that Newcastle fans want. They want it from the Premier League, and they want it from their owners. Sadly, we’ll get it from neither.
