The Newcastle United takeover saga takes yet another twist.
Thursday night brought news that HMRC had ended their investigation into Newcastle United.
Then came the bombshell that Mike Ashley was launching another lawsuit against the Premier League.
The club are currently awaiting the result of an arbitration hearing, but that will not be the end of Newcastle’s legal battle against the Premier League.
Ashley has now launched an anti-competition case, as he looks to force the takeover through as well as claim damages.
Following the HMRC decision, Ashley released an interesting statement that saw him take aim at the Premier League yet again.
“It is now time for the dark forces that are preventing this football club from becoming the powerhouse that the fans deserve, to step aside,” Ashley said, as reported by the Chronicle.
Mike Ashley knows all about ‘dark forces’
There’s a lot of irony in Ashley’s latest dig at the Premier League.
He is another ‘dark force’ that has stopped this club developing. We’ve gone completely backwards under his ownership.
There’s been relegation battle after relegation battle, which twice led to us dropping down to the Championship.
We were once a team consistently competing to be in Europe, now survival is championed as success.
Fans used to love to going to watch Newcastle. Now some don’t even bother. Others see it as a chore.
Newcastle United is a shell of its former self under Mike Ashley. He has ripped the soul out of a once great club.
While we may never have been able to become a ‘powerhouse’ under Ashley, we are certainly capable of so much more. But because of him, we have been held back.
‘Dark forces’ may have stopped the takeover as Ashley claims, but he must realise he too is a dark force that has put a sleeping giant into a coma for 14 years.
