The Daily Mail are reporting that Newcastle striker Callum Wilson’s injury could be worse than first feared.

Wilson is set for more scans by the end of the week to examine the issue which forced him off during the first half of the 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

The early indication was that Wilson would be out for around six weeks but there are now fears the problem has impacted his Achilles.

If that is the case, he is seemingly set for even longer on the sidelines, in what would be a real blow to Eddie Howe.

The report says that Wilson’s injury will impact the club’s transfer plans now that the January window is open.

Dwight Gayle is the next cab off the rank now that Joelinton has been reinvented as a central midfielder but he has made only four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

As expected, some Newcastle fans had their say on the report. Some are naturally concerned about the impact of Wilson’s absence on the survival bid.

Others are hopeful that the prognosis will convince the club to dip into a market for a striker, which was not as certain to be the case before.
