Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the news that Elliot Anderson has been called up to the next Scotland U21s squad.
The young midfielder will join up with the squad ahead of next month’s European Championship qualifying double-header.
Scott Gemmill’s side take on Kazakhstan on Friday 12th November and then Belgium on Tuesday, 16th November.
It will be the first time Anderson has featured for the U21s.
He has previously played for the U16s, 17s and 18s.
But most recently, he represented the England U19s. He played in a game against the Arsenal’s U23s at St George’s Park earlier this year.
Anderson was born in England (Whitley Bay), but is of Scottish descent. The time will eventually come where he’ll have to declare his allegiance.
It’s a good chance for Anderson to keeping building momentum, after starting the current season with an injury.
Anderson was contending with a hip injury during the off-season, and he only recently returned.
But it has been a good start for Anderson, who has scored four goals in six games so far.
He’ll be hoping to make an impression, as the club’s new owners continue the search for a new manager.
Anderson will be acutely aware that he needs to be drawing attention to himself now, after Steve Bruce regularly overlooked him last season after handing him his first-team debut.
