Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson has taken to Instagram, after making his debut for the England U19s yesterday.
The 18-year-old featured in a game against Arsenal’s U23s at St George’s Park.
It’s reported by the Chronicle that Anderson played as a number 10 for the Young Lions, and impressed in the 45 minutes he got against the Gunners.
They were 2-0 up at half-time, and the final score finish 6-1 to England.
Anderson was drafted into the squad as a result of missing out on a call-up by Steve Clarke to the senior Scotland squad.
He’s already represented them at youth level and is eligible for them through his grandmother.
Anderson took to Instagram today following his debut, and there were many messages of support, including from Magpies first-teamer Jacob Murphy.
The fact Anderson impressed at St. George’s Park will only increase the clamour among Newcastle supporters that he should be in Newcastle’s starting XI.
After making his first-team debut against Arsenal back in January, Anderson got just one more cameo in the Premier League – against the Gunners again – before being benched for the next three games.
Anderson then started getting dropped from matchday squads has not made any since the victory over Southampton at the beginning of February.
With every passing week it just seems even more bizarre that Anderson doesn’t have the trust of Steve Bruce.
The first-team is faltering so badly that surely throwing the talented teenager in is surely worth a punt at this point.
Even just getting him back on the bench and putting him on with half an hour to go in games if needed would make more sense than the current situation.
